The Chennakesava Temple was built in Belur by the Hoysala King Vishnuvardhana. It was originally called Vijayanarayana Temple. Built a temple for Vijaynarayana in 1117 A.D. in commemoration of his victory against the Chola viceroy of Talkad. This image shows the miniature shrines with Bhumija style superstructure at entrance to Chennakeshava temple.
