Temple no. 17, Sanchi:

This image is showing the temple architecture from sanchi area. The Gupta Period is important in the history of thedevelopment of temples in India. One of the remains of the earliest temple was found at Sanchi. This temple was madeof stone and consists of a small room, thegarbhagrihawhere the deity was installed. It also has a porch with beautifully designed pillars. It may be noticed that the roof of the temple is flat. Gradually, over a period of time, the roof evolved into richly sculpted spires orshikharasthat we see in later temples. South India temples haveelaborately sculptedgopuramsor gateways.
