Iron Pillar, Qutub Complex:

This image is showing the Iron Pillar with Alai Darawaja in Qutub area. It was built in Sultanat period (12thto 13thCentury). This is 7 meters in height. The weight of this pillar approximately 6000 k.g. The base rests on a grid of iron bars soldered with lead into the upper layer of the dressed stone pavement. The corrosion resistance results from an even layer of crystalline iron hydrogen phosphate forming on the high phosphorus content iron, which serves to protect it from the effects of the local Delhi climate.
